What is my turnaround time?
Depending on the length of your document, the editing service required, my current schedule and our agreed-upon time frame, it will usually take about three weeks. But it could take four or five weeks. The time frame for beta reads is two weeks. Please leave plenty of time in your schedule to accommodate this.
Do I do a sample edit?
Yes. I charge a nominal fee for sample edits, which would be deducted from the final invoice if you were to proceed with the full edit. By editing a representative sample (up to 1,000 words) of your work, I can figure out exactly how long it will take me to edit your entire text (and therefore the fee) and you can assess my services with a real example (and decide if we are a good fit). I'll provide a quote when I return the edited sample. The price quoted will depend on the level and extent of the service required. After my evaluation of the representative sample, and you have discussed their project requirements and agreed a booking date and fee with me, I will send the contract for services agreement.
How do I edit?
I edit in Microsoft Word using Track Changes and Comments. This is so you can review each of my edits or suggestions and decide if you wish to accept or reject them. I can also use the Adobe commenting tools on PDF if you prefer, but this is reserved for my proofreading service only (for documents that have previously been professionally edited). For beta reads I use the Comments tool in either Microsoft Word or Adobe.
How do you book a slot in my schedule?
To secure a slot in my schedule, 50% of the project fee is due upfront (non-refundable booking fee/deposit). Once I have received the booking fee, your slot in my schedule is confirmed.
How do you pay and whan?
A 50% non-refundable booking fee (deposit) will be due once you have returned the contract for services agreement. The remaining balance will be due once the project is complete. The manuscript will be returned once the balance is paid. All quotes are in GBP. Both the booking fee and remaining balance are to be paid to my UK bank account by bank transfer if the client is based in the UK, or via Wise (formerly TransferWise) if the client is based elsewhere. If an overseas transfer is not possible via Wise, payments are to be made by international bank transfer (SWIFT) to my UK bank account. In these cases I will ask for 100% of the fee upfront to minimise costly bank charges. If the client’s bank will charge me to receive payment, this will be added to the fee. All invoices are due on receipt.
